SEIZURE OF CONTRABAND GOODS AND ARREST OF A SUSPECT IN KIRINYAGA
On 2 September 2025, a multi-agency team led by Kirinyaga County Commissioner, Mr. Hussein Araso; County Police Commander, Mr. Nelson Taliti, CP; CCIO Kirinyaga County, Mr. Kassim Baricha; DCC Kirinyaga West, Mr. John Mbugua; and SCPC Kirinyaga West, Mr. Luckyton Mudavadi, SSP; conducted an operation in Kienja Village, Kiangai Sublocation, Kiine Location, Kirinyaga West Sub-County. The operation was mounted following a tip-off from members of the public. Acting on this intelligence, the team raided a shop suspected of selling contraband cigarettes. During the search, officers recovered assorted contraband items, including ninety-four (94) cartons of Supermatch cigarettes, eighty-nine thousand (89,000) bundles of polythene bags, four (4) opened cartons of Supermatch cigarettes, and sixty-four (64) packets of Oris cigarettes. One suspect was arrested and is being held in police custody pending processing and arraignment. All recovered items have been secured as exhibits. The National Police Service appreciates the vigilance of the public and encourages continued cooperation in the fight against the trade in contraband and other illegal activities.
