𝗜𝗚 𝗞𝗔𝗡𝗝𝗔 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗙𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗠𝗦 𝗡𝗣𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗔𝗛𝗘𝗔𝗗 𝗢𝗙 𝗢𝗟 𝗞𝗔𝗟𝗢𝗨 𝗕𝗬-𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡

The Inspector-General of the National Police Service, Mr. Douglas Kanja, today, 14 July 2026, assured Kenyans that the Ol Kalou Parliamentary by-election, scheduled for 16 July 2026, will be conducted in a peaceful and secure environment. Speaking during a multi-agency security briefing led by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the IG announced that over 1,000 police officers, supported by specialized units including the GSU, ASTU and DCI, have been deployed to safeguard the electoral process, protect voters, election officials and materials, and respond swiftly to any incidents. 

IG Kanja urged residents of Ol Kalou Constituency to exercise their democratic right peacefully and cautioned against any attempts to disrupt the electoral process. In his address, the IEBC Chairperson confirmed that all electoral preparations have been finalized, including staff training, voter register verification, and the deployment of election materials and technology. He also reminded the public that the campaign period has officially ended and that all electoral laws must be observed on polling day. The briefing brought together key electoral stakeholders, including the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), alongside other partner institutions, reaffirming a united commitment to free, fair, transparent and credible elections. 

The Inspector-General was accompanied by the Deputy Inspector-General of the Kenya Police Service, Mr. Eliud Lagat; the Deputy Inspector-General of the Administration Police Service, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli; the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mr. Mohamed Amin; and the NPS Director of Corporate Communication and Spokesperson, Mr. Muchiri Nyaga, AIG.
