The Directorate of Training and Research is one of the directorates in the office of the Inspector General. The main functions of the Directorate are:
1. Training and Curriculum Development
2. Preparing NPS training projections
3. Welfare and Sports
a) Coordinate the development and implementation of training programmes across the service
b) Designing and developing relevant training programmes, curricula and syllabi to support capacity building of Staff
c) Coordination of management training, in-service training, on-the job training, external training, bonding requirements and tracking of training impact
d) Establishment of liaison and linkages with other stakeholders for staff development especially development partners, institutions of higher learning and other relevant partners at local, regional and international levels
e) Undertake regular training needs and training impact assessment within the NPS
f) Coordinate the review and updating of curricula, training materials and delivery methods to address evolving demands and regulations
g) Prepare training projections to forecast future training needs and resources
h) Conduct research to inform policing policies and practices
i)Supervision of Training, Sports and Welfare personnel.
