𝗛.𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗥𝗨𝗧𝗢 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗦 𝗢𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗡𝗣𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗖𝗥𝗨𝗜𝗧𝗦' 𝗣𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗚-𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗗𝗘 𝗔𝗧 𝗡𝗣𝗖 𝗠𝗔𝗜𝗡 𝗖𝗔𝗠𝗣𝗨𝗦, 𝗞𝗜𝗚𝗔𝗡𝗝𝗢
The National Police Service (NPS) today, 28 August 2026, marked a significant milestone as His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, PhD, CGH, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, presided over the passing-out parade of police recruits at the National Police College, Main Campus, Kiganjo, in Nyeri County. During the occasion, the Head of State extended his warmest congratulations to the graduating officers for their endurance, discipline, and commitment throughout the rigorous training period. He also expressed gratitude to the college instructors for their dedication in shaping the graduates, and acknowledged the resilience of parents and guardians.
President Ruto reminded the graduands that "trust will be one of your greatest operational assets"—a powerful reminder that public trust remains the bedrock of effective policing. He underscored the critical role the new officers will play in anchoring national security and driving economic stability, and reminded them of the constitutional weight of their mandate. He urged all officers to operate strictly within the confines of the law, respect human rights, and maintain the highest standards of integrity.
Speaking during the parade, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen, lauded the profound impact of the Jukwaa la Usalama initiative in transforming Kenya's security landscape into a more participatory, citizen-led model. CS Murkomen emphasized that modern security relies heavily on the bridge built between the public and law enforcement.
In his remarks, the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, assured the Head of State and the general public that the graduating class has undergone a modernized, holistic, and comprehensive training curriculum. IG Kanja affirmed that the recruits have been exceptionally well-trained and have acquired all the competencies required for contemporary policing.
IG Kanja highly commended the ongoing technology-driven police reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency. He highlighted the operationalisation of the Multi-Biometric Identification System (MBIS) at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), an upgrade that has reduced processing time for Police Clearance Certificates from fourteen days to just twenty-four hours. He also noted the establishment of training camps in strategic locations to provide trainees with an ideal learning environment. Prior to the passing-out parade, President Ruto presided over the groundbreaking of a modernisation project at the National Police College, Main Campus, Kiganjo, and launched a new police uniform for General Duty officers.
The ceremony was attended by senior government officials and NPS officers, including the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo; the NPS Secretary Administration and Accounting Officer, Ms. Bernice Lemedeket; the Deputy Inspector-General of the Kenya Police Service, Mr. Eliud Lagat; the Deputy Inspector-General of the Administration Police Service, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli; and the Director of Criminal Investigations, Mr. Mohamed Amin, among other NPS officers and families.
