NPS FLAGS OFF TEAM TO THE 5TH EAPCCO GAMES IN ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA
The National Police Service (NPS) today, 16 April 2025, flagged off a team of 108 dedicated police officers representing Kenya at the upcoming East Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organisation (EAPCCO) Games in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, demonstrating Kenya’s commitment to fostering strong relationships and cooperation among Police in East Africa. EAPCCO is a regional law enforcement body comprising 14 member countries. Founded in 1998, it serves as a practical regional initiative to harmonise and strengthen police cooperation and joint strategies against transnational organised crime. NPS Kenya, the first runners-up in the 4th edition held in Rwanda in 2023, will participate in five disciplines in this year’s 5th EAPCCO Games including athletics, darts, boxing, handball, and shooting.
The competition is scheduled to run from 27 April to 4 May, 2025. The Director of Interpol Kenya, Mr. Ibrahim Jillo ,AIG, will lead the Kenyan delegation, which includes the Team Manager Mr. Anthony Muriithi, CP, Director of Sports, Kenya Police Service, Mr. Isaac Sang, CP, Deputy Director of Sports, KPS, Madam Jerop Caroline ,SSP, Dr. Michael Kabaara ,SP. Notable athletes representing Kenya in athletics include Abel Kisang, Winfred Mbithe, William Raiyan, Damacline Nyakiruri, and Naibei Kiplimo, alongside veteran athlete and medalist Isabella Ochichi. Celebrated marksman Sanford Otundo, champion of the 86th Fullbore Championship at the KDF Rifle Range in Nanyuki, will represent Kenya in the shooting competition.
While delivering remarks on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, the Principal Assistant to the Inspector General, Mr. Mathew Kutoh , SAIG, lauded the EAPCCO Games as a platform for officers from different nations to interact in a friendly, competitive manner, promoting sportsmanship and goodwill. Mr. Kutoh assured the team of the full support of the NPS, highlighting the event as an opportunity to celebrate the diverse talent within the National Police Service and among participating Police teams. Senior NPS commanders present at the flag-off ceremony included, Director of Training and Research, Mr. Philip Opiyo, AIG, Director of Planning, Mr. Richard Lesasuiyan ,AIG, Director of Reforms, Mr. John Kamau ,AIG, Director of ICT, Mr. Samuel Mwilu, AIG, and Director of Corporate Communication, Mr. Muchiri Nyaga, AIG.
