INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE DOUGLAS KANJA CHAIRS AFRIPOL EXTRA-ORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING
The Inspector General National Police Service, who doubles as the President of the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL) General Assembly today November 28, 2024 chaired the Extraordinary AFRIPOL General Assembly. The virtual meeting was attended by thirty-eight (38) Member States as well as African Union officials. The discussion focused on the reforms aimed at strengthening the capacity of AFRIPOL in meeting its continental mandate of enhancing cooperation amongst police agencies of its Member States, in the fight against transnational organized crimes, terrorism and cybercrime. AFRIPOL has its headquarters in Algiers, Algeria, and is currently headed by Ambassador Jalel Chelba in his capacity as the Ag. Executive Director. AFRIPOL works in partnership with similar regional and international law enforcement agencies, including INTERPOL, through training, joint security operations and intelligence sharing.
