DCI SWAT TEAM VISITS INSPECTOR GENERAL MR. DOUGLAS KANJA AT HIS OFFICE
Today, January 4, 2025, the DCI SWAT team paid a visit to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, at his office in Jogoo House, Nairobi. The visit followed a week-long joint training exercise in Rwanda aimed at enhancing Regional Cooperation and improving the teams' efficiency in counter-terrorism operations. The annual EAPCCO SWAT challenge assessed the participating teams in three key categories:
1. Obstacle Crossing,
2. Tactical Event (Hostage Rescue), and
3. Assault.
Kenya was represented by the Emergency Response Team of the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) in the 2025 EAPCCO SWAT Challenge, where the country emerged victorious against teams from Rwanda and South Sudan among others. This achievement underscores Kenya’s high level of preparedness in handling complex security threats. The IG commended the team for their dedication, skill, and outstanding performance during the challenge. He emphasized that such training and competitions not only enhance the team's operational capabilities but also strengthens security partnerships within the East African region. Also present during the event were the Principal Assistant to the IG, Mr. Mathew Kutoh, AIG, Interpol’s Head of NCB Nairobi, Mr. Ibrahim Jillo, AIG, and NPS Spokesperson, Mr. M. Muchiri Nyaga, CP.
