HIS EXCELLENCY THE PRESIDENT HONORS NPS PARIS OLYMPICS ATHLETES
Today August 15, 2024, His Excellency the President Dr. William S. Ruto hosted the Kenyan Athletics Team from Paris 2024 Olympics, among them Corporal Beatrice Chebet at State Lodge, Eldoret. Corporal Chebet from the Kenya Police Service is the double Olympic gold medalist in 5000m and 10000m women races in the just concluded Paris Olympics. Describing the athletes as ambassadors for our nation, H.E. the President expressed his emence pride for team Kenya, and for hosting the team in Eldoret, the city of champions. The Head of State further stated that the medals they won were a symbol of our national character and testament of what we can achieve.
Kenya won 11 medals (4 gold, 2 silver, 5 bronze), and of the 8 medals that were won by Africa, half came from Kenya, and in particular, the National Police Service. Beatrice Chebet is the one female athlete who ever won 2 gold medals in the whole world. Yesterday Ag. IG Gilbert Masengeli promoted Chebet to the rank of Corporal. Faith Kipyego won 1 gold and 1 silver while Abraham Kibiwott (now Corporal) won bronze medal. Overall, Kenya finished at position 17 in the world. DIG Kenya Police, Mr. Eliud Lagat, NPS Director of Corporate Communication/Spokesperson, Dr. Resila Onyango, AIG and Deputy Director of Operations at KPS, Mr. Mbatha, CP attended the functions. Today's function coincided with the inauguration of Eldoret Town to the status of a City. Next Youth Olympics will be held in Dakar in 2026.
