THANKSGIVING PRAYERS FOR UNIFORMED OFFICERS FROM SOUTH RIFT REGION HELD AT CHRIST THE KING CATHEDRAL IN NAKURU

A colourful thanksgiving ceremony for disciplined service officers and their families from the South Rift Region was held today, 30th August 2025, at Christ the King Cathedral in Nakuru. The Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. JB Macharia, who represented the Bishop in Charge of the Disciplined Uniformed Service Chaplaincy, His Lordship Bishop George Muthaka. He was assisted by chaplains from the disciplined services and local priests, with participation from members of the National Police Service (KPS, APS, and DCI), Kenya Forest Service, Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, and National Youth Service.

Graced by Nakuru County Commissioner Dr. Layford Kibaara as the chief guest, the Mass is held annually to honour and recognise the divine role of God in ensuring the safety and security of the disciplined services and the nation. This year’s theme was, “God strengthens and keeps me secure” (Psalms 18:32). While delivering a speech on behalf of Bishop Muthaka, Fr. JB Macharia thanked the County Commissioner and the congregation for attending the Mass. He urged the officers always to be honest and act with integrity when making decisions affecting people and to be accountable for their actions. Additionally, he advised them to be guided by moral, religious, and family values and encouraged the officers not to lose hope when they face setbacks, but to have determination and courage, knowing that the grace of God is sufficient. Moreover, Fr. JB Macharia challenged them to put their families first in all they do, make sound financial choices and avoid all forms of corruption.

The preacher, Rev. Fr. Jenga Josephat, spoke on the importance of gratitude in the lives of believers. He encouraged the congregation to be grateful to God for the gift of life, good health, family, and the opportunity to serve in their capacities as uniformed disciplined service officers. The chief guest, Dr. Kibaara, noted that the officers' participation was well-organized and the attendance was excellent. He reminded the officers of their mandate to protect life and property. He urged them to offer service without prejudice and to strive to keep peace at all times. He also thanked the church for consistently standing with the disciplined services.

The event also marked the end of Kenya Wildlife Service’s two-year stewardship in coordinating joint pastoral activities, with the mantle being passed to the Kenya Forest Service. Also in attendance were the Deputy Regional Police Commander, Mr. Gregory Mutiso, CP; Uasin Gishu County Administration Police Commander, Mr. Kiplagat Sielei, CP; Madam Grace Ndirangu, CP, from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Headquarters; Kenya Forest Service Rift Valley Regional Commandant Mr. David Mutoro; Kenya Wildlife Service Senior Assistant Director, Mr. Gedion Kebati, AC; Director of Administration, National Youth Service, Mr. Felix Ikumiru, ACG; Principal Chaplain, Kenya Prisons Service, Mrs. Teresiah Ngarachu; Ms. Monicah Berege, SSP, from DCI; and Mr. Rodgers Gathuku, SP, from the Directorate of Corporate Communication, among other senior officers.
