NPS ATTENDS SUMMIT ON GOOD GOVERNANCE, PEACE, SECURITY, AND HUMAN RIGHTS

The National Police Service today joined a crucial discourse focused on igniting transformative dialogue and exchanging insights among various stakeholders held at the Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete.

The aim of the summit was to foster accountability, responsibility, transparency, and effective communication, thereby cultivating a culture that prioritises the needs of the people and promotes a more efficient and effective public service.

Today’s discussion focused on identifying gaps in public service, finding interventions, developing actionable resolutions, and working towards a holistic and sustainable transformation of public service. Representing the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, at the event was the Commandant of NPC Embakasi 'A' Campus, Mr. Davis Lomwatu, SAIG.

In his address, Mr. Lomwatu noted that the National Police Service plays a critical role in promoting good governance by ensuring security, upholding the rule of law, and safeguarding fundamental rights and freedoms.

In this regard, the Service has adopted a multi-faceted approach to maintaining peace and security. This includes community engagement through community policing and a multi-agency approach collaborating with  other government agencies.

Additionally, the Service operates under a comprehensive legal framework that governs its structures, functions, and operations. These frameworks are designed to ensure professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights.

The event, organised by the Public Service Governance (PSG) and the Kenya School of Government (KSG), also brought together representatives from various stakeholders, including the Judiciary represented by Lady Justice Lucy Mwihaki Njuguna, Presiding Judge of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division, the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC), represented by the Director, Brigadier Joyce Sitienei, among others.
