THE 13TH EDITION OF THE NATIONAL POLICE SERVICE TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2025 COMES TO A SUCCESSFUL CLOSE

The second day of the 13th edition of the National Police Service (NPS) Track and Field Championships 2025 has drawn to a close, marking the end of an exciting and spirited showcase of athletic talent, discipline, and grit among members of the Service. The event, held at the Ulinzi Sports Complex in Lang’ata, was graced by the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, who noted that the championships were not just about competition but also an opportunity to celebrate the strength, spirit, and determination of the men and women who serve our country. Addressing the athletes, Dr. Omollo emphasized that by choosing the path of discipline, focus, and positive transformation, they demonstrated how strength and energy could be channeled into constructive outcomes.

Dr. Omollo, who is also the Patron of Police FC, acknowledged the power of sports as a bridge connecting the Service with the communities it serves. He added that officers have the power to influence change not only through their sporting performance but also through the choices they make in their careers and communities.
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, congratulated the winning team, expressing his confidence in those selected to represent the NPS Team in future competitions. He also encouraged those who did not perform to their expectations to keep training for future opportunities.

IG Kanja extended his appreciation to the event’s partners and sponsors for their continued support, including Safaricom PLC, Kenya National Police DT Sacco, CIC Insurance, Cooperative Bank, Harambee Sacco, and Nairobi Sports House, whose contributions were instrumental in the championships' success. A special highlight of the day was the recognition of veteran NPS athletes who have elevated the Service’s performance on the global stage. Honourees included Mr. William Yiampoy, SAIG, Mr. Abel Kirui, SSP, CI Milcah Chemos, CI Richard Matelong, CI Janet Jepkosgei, CI Mercy Cherono, and Charles Kamande among others. These trailblazers continue to serve as an inspiration to both current and upcoming athletes within the Service and beyond. The championships concluded on a high note, with jubilant celebrations as the reigning tug-of-war champions, the General Service Unit (GSU), carried the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service in celebration of their victory. Team Nairobi emerged as the overall champions of the 2025 edition, staying true to their slogan, "Simba ni moja." Rift Valley secured a close second place, while the GSU team finished in third place. 

The event was also graced by the host, Director of Ulinzi Sports Complex Lang’ata, Colonel James Masai psc 'K', Deputy CEO of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), Dr. Mc'Opiyo Silas Oloo, senior NPS leadership, including Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service, Mr. Eliud Lagat, Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service, Mr. Gilbert Masengeli, Director of DCI, Mr. Mohamed I. Amin, Commandant GSU, Mr. Ranson Lolmodooni, SAIG, Commandant NPC Main Campus Kiganjo, Mr. Nyale Munga, SAIG, Commandant Border Police Unit (BPU), Mr. James Kamau, SAIG, Nairobi Regional Police Commander, Mr. George Seda, AIG, and Director of Corporate Communication/ NPS Spokesperson Mr. Muchiri Nyaga, AIG among other senior officers.
