CLOSURE OF THE INTERNAL AFFAIRS UNIT (IAU) BASIC INDUCTION COURSE AT NPLA

Today, 8 August 2025, the National Police Service celebrated a significant milestone in its commitment to upholding justice, integrity, and professionalism. At the National Police Leadership Academy (NPLA), 32 newly deployed officers to the Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) successfully completed their Basic Induction Programme, stepping forward as guardians of accountability within the Service. Presiding over the colourful closing ceremony on behalf of the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Mr Douglas Kanja, was the Commandant of the National Police Leadership Academy, Mr. David K Mathiu, AIG. 

In his address, the Commandant commended the graduating officers for their dedication, urging them to serve with empathy, compassion, and the highest standards of professionalism. He also challenged them to embrace emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV), to enhance investigations and combat crime more effectively. The training, sponsored by the International Justice Mission (IJM), was specially designed to equip officers with the expertise needed to conduct thorough, timely, and impartial investigations, ensuring the Service remains a beacon of professionalism and public trust. 

The International Justice Mission reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with the National Police Service in strengthening the justice system, emphasizing that accountability and justice go hand in hand. Also in attendance were the IAU Head of Human Capital Management, Ms. Mildred Odima, CP; Deputy Commandant NPLA, Dr. David Muthondeki, CP;  NPLA Dean of Studies, Ms. Sicily Gatiti, CP; NPLA Director, Planning, Research & Development, Mr. Geoffrey Kathurima, CP; International Justice Mission Technical Lead Police Partnerships, Ms. Naomi Maina; and other senior officers.
