NPS TRAFFIC DEPARTMENT HOLDS FOLLOW-UP MEETING ON ENHANCING ROAD SAFETY
The National Police Service (NPS) Traffic Department today convened a follow-up meeting to one held on 16 January 2026, continuing its structured engagement on enhancing road safety. Today’s deliberations, chaired by the Deputy Commandant of Traffic, Mr.Joel Kirui, CP, underscored the continuity of ongoing efforts to address practices and conditions that compromise road safety, cause public inconvenience, and negatively impact public health and overall well-being. Emphasis was placed on coordination among all concerned agencies, adherence to established safety standards, and the adoption of approaches that balance effective enforcement with respect for the rights and welfare of the public.
The meeting was attended by representatives from various agencies: From the NPS: The Officer in Charge of Traffic for Nairobi, Mr.Chirchir Cheronyei, CP; SO OPS Traffic, Mr.John Nyoike, CP; SOP Traffic, Mr.Gabriel Kimanzi, CP; Liaison NPS/NCCG, Mr.Boniface Otieno, SSP; and the Deputy OC of the Government Vehicle Check Unit (GVCU), Mr.Bernard Indeke, ASP. From the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA): Ms.Brenda Sawe and the In-Charge of Motor Vehicle Inspection, Mr.Dennis Ireri. From the Nairobi City County Government (NCCG): Mr.Shadrack Busienei (Operations) and Mr.Boniface Otieno,SSP (Liaison). From the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA): Mr.Stephen Ngotho, Ms.Esther Mwita, and IP Jeremiah Okello. From the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP): Ms.Maryann Mwangi and Ms.Nora A. As each of the represented agencies executes its respective mandate, the overarching objective remains to protect lives, prevent injuries, and create a safer road environment for all users.
