KENYA CLINCHES HISTORIC SEAT ON INTERPOL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE- DELEGATE FOR AFRICA
Kenya has secured a significant international distinction with the election of Mohamed I. Amin, the Director of Criminal Investigations, as Africa's Delegate to the INTERPOL Executive Committee at the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly in Marrakech, Morocco, 27th November, 2025. During the Assembly elections, Mr. Lucas Philippe of France was elected President of INTERPOL for a four-year term, while Mr. Wang Yong of China was elected Vice-President for Asia on a three-year mandate. Additionally, Ms. Kazumi Ogasawara of Japan was elected as the Delegate for Asia and Mr. Stefano Carvelli of Italy as the Delegate for Europe.
Africa will be represented by two Delegates: Kenya’s Mr. Mohamed I. Amin and Mr. Issam Fetoui of Tunisia — both elected to serve three-year terms. The Kenyan delegation received a warm welcome and strong diplomatic support from Amb. Jessica M. Gakinya and Mr. Billy Mathu, Kenya mission in Rabat, and Ms. Eva Nthoki ,Head of Candidatures Division from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nairobi, reaffirming Kenya’s commitment to international cooperation and multilateral security partnerships. This continental victory represents the trust and confidence of INTERPOL's Member Countries in Kenya's commitment to strengthening both regional and global security frameworks. It reinforces Kenya’s vision for a safe and resilient Africa, one that advances innovation, deepens meaningful partnerships, and enhances cooperation to counter cyber threats, terrorism, illicit trafficking, financial crimes, as well as crimes targeting women and children.
Mr. Amin’s candidature was formally presented to the INTERPOL membership by the Inspector General of the National Police Service, Mr. Douglas Kanja, underscoring national unity and Kenya’s collective resolve to assume a leading role in global policing. He expressed sincere appreciation to His Excellency, President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, CGH, for nominating and entrusting him with the responsibility to represent Kenya and Africa at this critical global security platform, reaffirming that the honour belongs to the Kenyan nation. In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Amin expressed deep gratitude to Member States, stating: "I am deeply honoured to take on this responsibility as Delegate for Africa to the INTERPOL Executive Committee. Your confidence in my candidacy reflects Kenya's commitment to international policing and the importance of partnership across our regions."
He further committed to ensuring an INTERPOL that is contextually aware and inclusive , while championing the protection of the most vulnerable: “I will continue to advocate for the tools, capacities, and cooperation needed to dismantle criminal networks and defend the rights and lives of those who depend on us the most.” With more than three decades of exemplary service in law enforcement, Mr. Amin has consistently championed operational excellence, accountability, and the rule of law. His tenure has been marked by substantial achievements, including strengthening Kenya's integration with INTERPOL's policing infrastructure and deepening collaborative relationships with AFRIPOL, EAPCCO, and international security partners, positioning him well to represent African interests on the global stage.
As he assumes this continental mandate, Mr. Amin will prioritize: elevating Africa’s voice and priorities within INTERPOL, advancing technology-driven policing, strengthening capacity building and joint operations and intensifying efforts against human trafficking and child exploitation. Kenya remains fully committed to working closely with regional and global partners in advancing INTERPOL’s mission of connecting police for a safer world.
