NPS CURRICULUM REVIEW TEAM HOLDS CONSULTATIVE MEETING WITH THE ODPP AT THE PROSECUTION TRAINING INSTITUTE, LORESHO
Today, 30 October 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) Curriculum Review Working Group held a consultative meeting with representatives from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) at the Prosecution Training Institute in Loresho. The meeting was part of the ongoing NPS Training Needs Assessment exercise. through this initiative, the Service is engaging key criminal justice stakeholders to gather insights on the relevance, adequacy, and effectiveness of police training in Kenya. Given the ODPP’s constitutional and statutory mandate to undertake criminal prosecutions and provide legal guidance during investigations, its input is invaluable for identifying gaps that affect the quality of investigations, inter-agency collaboration, and the overall administration of justice.
The consultations aimed to ensure that the revised police training curriculum sufficiently equips officers with the competencies required to conduct legally sound investigations, improve case outcomes, and strengthen the delivery of justice. During the session, ODPP representatives highlighted key areas for enhanced collaboration with the NPS in both investigations and prosecutions. They also identified procedural deficiencies that often hinder coordination and communication between the two institutions. The discussions further emphasized the need to align police training with practical investigative responsibilities, ensuring officers are adequately prepared to meet evidentiary and procedural requirements for prosecution.
The National Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the ODPP in revising the training curriculum. This collaboration is designed to enhance the quality of investigations, improve inter-agency collaboration, and increase prosecutorial effectiveness—ultimately contributing to a stronger and more efficient justice system.
In attendance from the ODPP were Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Ms. Christine Gakobo and Dr. Allan Wanjohi, a trainer at the Prosecution Training Institute. The NPS delegation was led by Deputy Director of the Directorate of Training and Research (NPS), Dr. Gideon Kirui, CP, and included Chief Instructor of NPC Embakasi ‘B’ Campus, Mr. Christopher Mumo, CP; Dr. Monica Karanja, SSP, from the Directorate of Training and Research (KPS); and Inspector Daniel Wera from the Administration Police Service (APS); among other senior officers.
