IG KANJA JOINS INTERIOR CS FOR THE 44TH JUKWAA LA USALAMA FORUM IN MANDERA COUNTY

The Inspector General of the National Police Service (IG-NPS), Mr. Douglas Kanja, on Monday, 22nd September 2025, joined the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Interior and National Administration, Hon. Onesmus Kipchumba Murkomen, for the 44th Jukwaa La Usalama forum. The meeting was held at the Mandera Teachers Training College in Mandera East Sub-County. This forum is one of many nationwide security assessment meetings that the CS and the IG have consistently undertaken since the start of the year. The forums are used to comprehensively assess security challenges and the socio-economic issues unique to different counties, with a view to developing locally based solutions.

Furthermore, the success of these forums stems from their strategic structure, whereby the top national security leadership, led by the CS and the IG, engage directly at the grassroots level with ordinary citizens, local security and administration officials, religious groups, the business community, and young people. This approach gives the government a genuine and clear understanding of the people's needs. During today's forum, the CS and the IG listened as different representatives spoke freely. The CS urged local administrators and security officers to serve the people with diligence and the utmost professionalism. He directed all government officials to refrain from engaging in corrupt activities, while assuring locals of the government's commitment to bringing services closer to them.

For his part, the IG reminded all security officers to work collaboratively with the public to ensure they receive the best possible service. The IG equally asked local residents to support security agencies and share criminal intelligence for the safety and security of everyone in the county, emphasizing that security is a critical shared responsibility. Earlier, the CS paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Mandera County, H.E. Mohamed Adan Khalif, at his official residence.

Also present at the forum were local politicians, led by the MP for Mandera East, Hon. Hussein Weytan.
Other attendees included the Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service (DIG-APS), Mr Gilbert Masengeli; the Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mr. Mohamed I. Amin; the Commandant of the General Service Unit (GSU), Mr. Ranson Lolmodooni, SAIG; the Regional Commissioner for the North Eastern Region, Mr. John Otieno; and the Regional Police Commander for the North Eastern Region, Mr. Pepita Ranka, AIG.
