SOCIAL MEDIA ALLEGATIONS ON ASSAULT BY POLICE.
The attention of the National Police Service has been drawn to allegations doing rounds in the social media on alleged assault by police on members of the public in an estate within Nairobi.
We wish to clarify to the public that the incident had nothing to do with the enforcement of curfew orders. The information we have is that certain individuals attending a night party within the residential area caused disturbance to the neighbors who reported the matter to the police for action.
The police responded appropriately in order to address the issue and in the course of police addressing the complaint, some individuals got injured while trying to escape arrest. We wish to advise those aggrieved to make formal complaints to the nearest police station.
The National Police Service upholds the rule of law and does not condone any form of police excesses. I promise that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action taken against those found culpable.
We wish to remind the public to take due caution and observe law and order and also be kind to their neighbors during this festive season. The National Police Service will work closely with the public to ensure maximum safety and security for all Kenyans.
Thank you.
