THE 10th EDITION OF THE NATIONAL POLICE SERVICE TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2022

The Inspector General NPS and President AFRIPOL General Assembly Mr. Hilary Mutyambai spoke highly of the newly recruited athletes while lauding teams for their exemplary performances at the just concluded 10th Edition of the National Police Service Track and Field Championships at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

The two-day-event that culminated today saw sixteen (16) teams compete in different sports and three major categories. The National Police College - Kiganjo emerged the overall winner in all categories. The Main Campus team relegated DCI to a second place in the Women Overall Category with their Nairobi counterpart coming a distant third. In the Men's Overall Category, they outdid second-placed Nairobi as GSU settled for a third place. Kiganjo team furthered its rout when they sealed a hattrick of glory beating Nairobi Area for the first position and the National Police College- Embakasi ‘A’ Campus (formerly APTC) who settled for position three. The GSU team, who are the defending champions in the Tug of War event maintained their dominance by emerging the winner in that category.

The IG gave special mentions to the 100 Metres African record holder Ferdinand Omanyala and a fast-rising star, Maximillar Ingadi as the future of sports in the National Police Service. He encouraged respective team managers to offer gifted police athletes necessary technical support to excell in their trades.

The DIG-KPS Mr. Edward Mbugua on the other hand thanked participants for their display tipping that the current team is the best he has seen during his tenure.

Athletics Kenya President Rtd. Lt. Gen. Jackson Tuwei in his remarks thanked the IG and NPS for their contribution in sports both as participants and in the provision of security. This, he said, has enabled Kenya successfully host national and international sporting events. He further urged sportsmen to prepare adequately for the National Athletic Championships to be held later this month and upcoming international events. Mr. Douglas Kanja, the Commandant GSU was among the dignitaries who attended the event.
