Police Hot Lines

Did you know that the Police Service started   as a basic outfit during the colonial era that grew steadily to the current 100,000 plus police officers providing security and public safety to Kenyans?

This is contained in a book entitled: The National Police Service-"From Force to Service" launched today at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).

The book highlights the history of the Kenya Police Service, the Administration Police Service and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID)  with a  series of events that contributed to the need for reforms from Police Force to a Service.

Demand for Police reforms became inevitable following realities of an expanded Bill of Rights as enshrined in the Constitution together with the rapidly evolving threats to the national security and the technological advancement in the world.

The book published in 2019 during the tenure of the second Inspector General, National Police Service Mr. Joseph Boinnet, further highlights the streamlining of the command structure thus eliminating unnecessary duplications and application of resources for effective and efficient service delivery.

Sacrifices that individual police officers have to make to protect the lives and property of citizens have also been captured for posterity, the former Inspector General Mr. Boinnet said.

Mr. Boinnet who is the current Chief Administrative Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism expressed hope that the book will enable the public to continually understand and appreciate the workings of the Police Service in the maintenance of law and order.

Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi who officiated the event, thanked the former IGP for ensuring the publication of the book that will act as repository for future generation.

The Inspector General Mr. Hilary Mutyambai thanked his predecessor and assured that shifting the mind-set of officers from force to service was steadily on course.
