Press Releases/Statements

NO RELENTING ON WAR AGAINST CONTRABAND.

Following our scaled-up interventions against illicit trade across the country, a multi-agency team on road block duties along Garissa-Thika Highway, at Ngutani, today intercepted a bus with plate number KBX 267K en route to Nairobi from Dadaab.

Preliminary inspection of the vehicle revealed that the under-floor of the passenger compartment had been illegally modified and fitted with secret storage bins which were stuffed with 49 cartons of Batook chewing gum; four cartons containing 25 pieces of Tres Orix-Forte appetite stimulant; five boxes containing 1000 sachets of pain relieving tablets; 286 tins of Red Cow milk powder (each 2.5kgs); 37 tins of Anchor milk powder (each 2.5kgs); and 42 tins of Nura milk powder (each 2.5kgs).

The manner and design of the said partitions not only allows for the concealment and transport of contraband goods but may also be used to ferry dangerous weapons and explosives.

Consequently, the officers arrested the driver and his two conductors as primary suspects.

They were booked and handed over to Ngutani Police Station for further action and arraignment in court. In this regard, I wish to profoundly commend the multiagency team, who are working tirelessly day and night to ensure safety and security of citizens and residents of Kenya.

My office is in consultation with other relevant authorities with a view to taking appropriate action on culpable individuals and organisations in the transport sector involved in such illegitimate business.
