IPOA AND NPS COMMIT TO WORK TOGETHER (2018-10-23).

The National Police Service (NPS) will continue working together with the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to ensure that the officers uphold professionalism and adhere to the rule of law while discharging their duties. The Inspector General Mr. Joseph Boinnet shake hands with the IPOA Chairperson Mrs. Ann Makori at the IPOA Offices Nrb.

The Inspector General Mr. Joseph Boinnet said, the Police working with IPOA does not interfere with the oversight authority’s independence but geared towards making the officers responsive to the needs of the citizenry while at the same time improving the efficiency and effectiveness in service delivery.

Mr. Boinnet was speaking today at the IPOA offices in Nairobi where he paid a courtesy call on the new board chaired by Mrs. Ann Makori.

The IG who was accompanied by the Internal Affairs Unit Director Mr. Charlton Mureithi, said, that the previous board whose tenure of office expired early this year  provided great ideas on how to make the service more responsive, efficient and effective.

He hailed the previous board for undertaking a thorough study on police housing thus providing a detailed report with recommendations that are now part of what is being implemented where police officers, regardless of their ranks, will be provided with house allowance by December this year  to enable them rent  houses outside their usual police camps.

The IG said, the relationship with IPOA will continue to be  strengthened  adding that the National Police Service Commission will also be roped in to effectively tackle  issues that affect the police performance.

IPOA chairperson Mrs. Ann Makori  said, enhanced relationship and partnership  with the police  will go a long way in building public  trust and confidence.

Mrs. Makori said the two institutions operate under different mandates which she said, are being observed and respected in order to achieve the goals that each institution was intended for.
